Oak Glen Wind Farm
Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA), our power supplier, kicked off construction of the Oak Glen Wind Farm with a ground breaking celebration in Spring 2011. The project which was announced in 2008, is near Highway 218 about three miles northwest of Blooming Parairie, MN and encompasses approximately 3,000 acres.
The purpose of the wind farm is to generate electricity from the endlessly renewable resource of wind power. The renewable power from Oak Glen Wind Farm will help MMPA meet state requirements for 25% of electrical energy to be generated from renewable energy sources by 2025.
24 wind turbines were installed in the project area and the projected output of the project is approximately 44 megawatts (MW). Each turbine occupies less than a half acre. They were positioned for maximum wind availabilty and minimum disruption to farming.
MMPA expects the Oak Glen Wind Farm project to be compete by the end of 2011 and are committed to providing a long-term asset to the Oak Glen Wind Farm Community.
